BHUBANESWAR, SEP 18
Indian Railways is observing Swachhta Hi Sewa Pakhwada nationwide from September 14 to October 1, 2024, under the theme ‘Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata,’ culminating in the celebration of Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2. In line with this initiative, East Coast Railway (ECoR) has launched an extensive campaign focused on cleanliness at railway stations, trains, offices, workshops, maintenance depots, railway hospitals, and residential areas.
At the campaign’s launch in New Delhi, Satish Kumar, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Railway Board, emphasized that the campaign aims to inspire collective action and encourage widespread citizen involvement in cleanliness efforts. This initiative invites all citizens, stakeholders, and partners to actively contribute to making a cleaner, greener India.
Mohes Kumar Behera, Additional General Manager of East Coast Railway, administered an oath to employees at Rail Sadan, Bhubaneswar, encouraging them to dedicate 100 hours annually to cleanliness. Employees were urged to refrain from littering, begin cleanliness efforts with themselves, their families, and workplaces, and to persuade 100 others to commit the same amount of time to uphold Mahatma Gandhi’s vision for a clean nation.
ECoR is implementing a comprehensive awareness program during Swachhta Pakhwada, involving passengers, rail users, and stakeholders. Activities will include painting and drawing competitions on themes of cleanliness, anti-littering awareness, and on-board cleanliness. Focus areas will also include maintaining cleanliness at washing lines, railway yards, and tracks; gathering passenger feedback on food quality; ensuring cleanliness at water installations, including drinking water taps at stations; and maintaining all toilet blocks at railway stations, coaching depots, trains, and surrounding areas.
