The e-Sanjeevani telemedicine platform, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), has successfully conducted 31.86 crore teleconsultations as of December 2024, Union Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Expanding Digital Healthcare Access
The e-Sanjeevani platform, launched by MoHFW, facilitates remote consultations, reducing the burden on physical healthcare facilities. It operates through two key modules:
- e-Sanjeevani OPD – Enables doctor-to-patient consultations remotely.
- e-Sanjeevani AAMs – Connects Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) with specialist doctors, improving healthcare accessibility in remote areas.
Modernizing Public Healthcare Infrastructure
The government has introduced multiple initiatives to upgrade medical equipment and technologies in public hospitals, ensuring early diagnosis and efficient treatment. Additionally, efforts are underway to enhance the quality of care at public health facilities.
Key initiatives include:
- ‘Mera Aspataal’ – A patient feedback system implemented at district hospitals.
- Behavioral Standards for Patient-Centric Care – A framework to improve patient experience.
- Defined Patient Responsibilities – Guidelines shared with states to improve healthcare service delivery.
Pharmacy Education Reforms
Union Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel also highlighted new measures to maintain quality in pharmacy education.
- The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has set a staff-to-student ratio of 1:20 for theory and practical classes in the B. Pharm course.
- Earlier, only the D. Pharm course had prescribed ratios (1:60 for theory, 1:20 for practicals).
These steps aim to ensure quality training in the pharmacy sector and strengthen India’s healthcare workforce.
