The Divisional Committee Meeting of Members of Parliament (MPs) representing the Sambalpur Railway Division of the East Coast Railway (ECoR) convened today in Jharsuguda. The meeting featured the participation of MPs from both Chhattisgarh and Odisha, alongside senior railway officials, including East Coast Railway General Manager, Parmeshwar Funkwal.

During the session, Balangir MP Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo was nominated as the Chairperson of the Divisional Committee.

Other distinguished attendees included: Pradeep Purohit, MP/Bargarh; Malvika Devi, MP/Kalahandi; Roop Kumari Choudhry, MP/Mahasamund; Niranjan Bishi, MP (Rajya Sabha) Tankadhar Tripathy, MLA, Jharsuguda & representative of Union Minister for Education and MP/Sambalpur

The MPs engaged in constructive discussions aimed at enhancing railway infrastructure and improving passenger amenities in the region. They expressed their appreciation for the developmental initiatives undertaken by the Sambalpur Railway Division, focusing on the importance of ongoing projects and raising critical points regarding train services, stoppages, and passenger facilities.

During the meeting, key issues were discussed, including the need to increase train frequency and extend services to remote locations. The MPs emphasized the importance of accelerating the construction of new railway lines and developing Road Under Bridges (RUBs) and Road Over Bridges (ROBs). Enhancing passenger amenities at stations was also a priority, along with ensuring cleanliness of trains, platforms, and station areas. The group stressed the necessity of timely completion of ongoing projects and reviewing train stoppages to better serve the public.

The MPs commended East Coast Railway’s commitment to addressing regional freight transportation needs and their continuous efforts to improve passenger train services.

General Manager Funkwal welcomed the MPs and expressed gratitude for their valuable insights. He provided updates on the performance of East Coast Railway, highlighting improvements in passenger services and the status of various infrastructure development projects.

The meeting was also attended by Divisional Railway Manager, Tushar Kant Pandey, Principal Heads of various departments of East Coast Railway, and officers from the Sambalpur Division.
