‘Made in India’ sovereign cloud infrastructure would improve national security and resilience, according to industry analysts, as the nation’s data center capacity is expected to treble from 870 MW in FY22 to roughly 1,700–1,800 MW by FY25.

India presently holds more data for the nation than both the US and China combined.

“We will surpass all other countries in the world in terms of per-user data consumption by 2028, with an average of nearly 62 GB per user per month, compared to just 300 MB a few years ago,” stated Sunil Gupta, Chair of the Assocham National Council on Datacenter.

“The digital pervasiveness is only becoming bigger, making India a digital-first economy leapfrogging us beyond every single largest global economy,” he stated.

From about 200 megawatts in 2013-14, India has grown to 1200 megawatt.

“We plan to reach 2,000 megawatt by 2027. In addition to being fully safeguarded by local law and regulation, a sovereign cloud guarantees that data created in India stays inside its boundaries, according to Gupta, who is also the co-founder, chief executive officer, and co-founder of Yotta Data Services.

Data centers are anticipated to play a significant role in the software-as-a-service (SaaS) market’s projected $35 billion expansion in India by 2025.

“Growth is imperative as far as the country is concerned. The paradigm that we really need to focus on is to make the lives of individual Indians better,” said Niranjan Hiranandani, Past President Assocham and CMD, Hiranandani Group of Companies.

Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Mumbai are the next cities in line for the greatest data center market share, according to Surajit Chatterjee, Co-Chair, Assocham National Council on Datacenter.

“We are now moving into tier 2 and tier 3 markets,” he added.
