The Coal Ministry met with interested parties on Tuesday to discuss the stricter regulations it intends to implement to support a sustainable approach to coal mining that incorporates required environmental preservation measures.
According to M. Nagaraju, Additional Secretary and Nominated Authority, the new rules prioritize ecosystem protection while emphasizing responsible mining methods that enable sector growth.
In order to ensure sustainable management of natural resources, mining plans must incorporate restoration, cleanup, and regeneration methods. These actions are intended to lessen their negative effects on the environment, attend to community concerns, and encourage further advancements in the monitoring of water quality.
M. Nagaraju emphasized in his speech the significance of striking a balance between increased accountability and flexibility for coal mine owners. The updated Mining Plan Guidelines seek to implement stricter regulations that maximize coal extraction while guaranteeing that all parties involved can benefit equally.
A thorough presentation on the draft rules, which seek to improve extraction procedures and elevate accountability standards, was given by the Advisor (Project), Ministry of Coal.
By bringing everyone’s interests into line, the ministry hopes to advance sustainable development in the industry.
The stakeholder engagement gave industry leaders and experts a forum for in-depth talks and input, paving the way for a comprehensive regulatory framework that tackles current issues and conforms to international best practices in mining governance.
25 coal and lignite mining enterprises, including PSUs and captive/commercial miners, as well as representatives from the state governments of Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, and Uttar Pradesh, participated in the event.
The ministry is dedicated to advancing these projects in close coordination with interested parties. According to a statement from the Coal Ministry, the next Mining Plan Guidelines will preserve the greatest standards of ethical mining practices, operational effectiveness, and environmental stewardship, guaranteeing a sustainable future for the industry.
