A new Tata Hitachi Chain Mounted Excavator was inaugurated at the Raw Materials Handling Plant (RMHP) of SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) by Alok Verma, Executive Director (Mines), on Friday. The event was attended by senior officials, including SS Roychoudhury, CGM (RMHP), RN Rajendran, CGM (Mechanical), and Abakash Mallick, GM In-Charge (Transport & FMM).

The excavator features a heavy-duty bucket with a capacity of 0.91 cubic meters and an operating weight of 20,600 kilograms. It is equipped with a Prime AC cabin designed to enhance operator comfort and efficiency. Procured at a cost of approximately Rs. 48 lakh through the GeM Portal, this machine will replace an older model that has been retired.

The new excavator will play a crucial role in various operational tasks within RMHP, including housekeeping, clearing junction houses and bed tracks, and handling raw materials. Its introduction is expected to significantly improve housekeeping standards and operational efficiency, supporting the plant’s increasing production demands and enhancing productivity across departments.
