India’s telephone subscriber count hit 119.9 crore, but the country added 7.3 crore internet users and 7.8 crore broadband users in a single year, according to information released by the Center on Tuesday.

With an annual growth rate of 8.3%, the total number of internet users climbed from 88.1 crore at the end of March 2023 to 95.4 crore at the end of March this year.

According to the most recent data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the number of broadband users increased from 84.6 crore in March 2023 to 92.4 crore in March 2024, demonstrating that broadband services continued to rise.

The telecom regulatory agency stated, “This robust growth rate of 9.15% with a massive addition of 7.8 crore Broadband subscribers underscores the importance of high-speed connectivity.”

With an annual growth rate of 8.24%, the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) also grew, rising from Rs 2,49,908 crore in 2022–2023 to Rs 2,70,504 crore in 2023–2024.

At an annual growth rate of 1.39 percent, the total tele-density in India rose from 84.51 percent at the end of March 2023 to 85.69 percent in March of this year.

With an annual growth rate of 7.93%, the number of wireless data customers climbed from 84.6 crore at the end of March 2023 to 91.3 crore at the end of March 2024.

The TRAI data also revealed that the overall volume of wireless data usage grew, with an annual growth rate of 21.69%, from 1,60,054 PB (petabyte) in the year 2022–2023 to 1,94,774 PB in the year 2023–2024.

India now has 119.9 crore phone customers, up from 117.2 crore at the end of March of last year, representing an annual growth rate of 2.3%.

The data indicates that there was an increase in average minutes of usage (MOUs) per subscriber per month from 919 in 2022–2023 to 963 in 2023–2024, representing an annual growth rate of 4.73%.
