“Behavioural safety is crucial for achieving cultural transformation,” stated Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), during a post-survey safety feedback session for Project Nischay held at the Learning & Development department.

Bhowmick emphasized the significance of Project Nischay and its implementation within the plant to ensure the safety of all employees. “It is our responsibility to safeguard everyone in the plant. Project Nischay has made significant progress, but we still have more work to do to ensure the safety of every individual, including those in the mines,” he added.

He further noted that the plant must strive for a culture where every employee, regardless of their position, can identify and mitigate risks.

ED (Works) SR Suryawanshi commended the Safety Engineering department and other allied teams for fostering a positive safety culture at the plant. He expressed satisfaction with the survey results and assured full support from top management in making RSP the safest steel plant in India.

ED (F&A) AK Behuria urged everyone to effectively manage hazards and stressed the importance of enhancing safety awareness among employees. He promised budgetary support for the plant’s safety initiatives.

Earlier, Raja Debnath, a consultant from M/s E&Y, presented an overview of the ‘Leadership Feedback’ report, detailing the cultural transformation of safety at RSP and the impact of Project Nischay over the past two years. M/s E&Y conducted a comprehensive survey to assess Project Nischay’s effects on various parameters, including leadership, processes, and digital tool usage. Debnath also outlined a roadmap for improving workplace safety with the ultimate goal of achieving zero harm.

The session began with a welcome address by CGM (Safety & Fire Services) Asha Karta, while GM (Safety Engineering) Abakasa Behera delivered the formal vote of thanks. The event was anchored by Assistant Manager (Safety) Prangya Nath.
