The Adani Group announced on Monday that, as part of its commitment to a sustainable future by planting and raising 100 million trees by FY30, it has partnered with the Madhya Pradesh government to supply 11 lakh seedlings, out of the 51 lakh trees that will be planted in Indore.
This project is a component of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s broader ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, which aims to plant 1.4 billion trees across the country.
Together with state cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Mohan Yadav pledged to plant 5.5 crore trees in the state’s 55 districts.
The Adani Group would donate saplings from 25 different species to support the development of biodiversity in the city’s green space.
On the “Trillion Trees Platform” of 1t.org, the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Adani Group has committed to planting 100 million trees by 2030. With this promise, it becomes one of the most significant corporate pledges made on 1t.org to date.
This comprises the 29.52 million trees that the organization has vowed to protect and has already planted. This commitment will help the Adani Group achieve its goals of becoming a low-carbon, carbon-neutral, and net-zero enterprise as well as its efforts to combat climate change.
The promise is also in line with India’s nationally determined contribution (NDC) to the Paris Agreement, wherein the government promised to build a new carbon sink capable of storing 2.5–3.0 billion tons of CO2 equivalent.
