ROURKELA, NOV 9

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has been honoured with the prestigious GEF Global Sustainability Award 2024. The award was presented at a glittering ceremony held in New Delhi on Friday. Dr. Lalit Varma, former Additional Chief Secretary to the Uttar Pradesh Government and Chairman of the Global Energy & Environment Foundation (GEEF), awarded RSP for its outstanding achievements in environmental management during the year 2023-24.

The ceremony was also attended by distinguished guests, including Dr. Bibek Bandyopadhyay, former Senior Advisor to the Government of India, and Nico Schiettekatte, Counsellor for Health, Welfare & Sport at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in India.

On behalf of RSP, the award was received by Hiralal Mohapatra, Chief General Manager (Utility & Environment).

The GEF Global Sustainability Award is an annual recognition given to organizations, companies, and individuals that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to environmental sustainability and have implemented best practices in environmental management.

RSP’s selection for this prestigious award highlights the plant’s eco-friendly initiatives in steel production. Key factors contributing to the recognition include significant reductions in specific energy and water consumption, lower pollution levels, reduced carbon footprint, and improved raw material efficiency throughout 2023-2024.
