The Divisional Committee Meeting in Bhubaneswar brought together Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Khurda Road Railway Division under the East Coast Railway (ECoR) jurisdiction. The meeting, presided over by Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, featured notable attendance from Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Ramamohan Naidu, along with other prominent MPs from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, including Dr. Sambit Patra, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy, Bibhu Prasad Tarai, Ananta Nayak, Sukanta Kumar Panigrahi, Dr. Rabindra Narayan Behera, Avimanyu Sethi, Sulata Deo and Subhasish Khuntia.
ECoR General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal emphasized the railway’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and passenger amenities.
During the meeting, the MPs engaged in productive discussions focused on elevating railway services in the region. They strongly supported ongoing developmental initiatives and underscored the necessity of addressing vital issues, such as increasing train frequency, expanding services to remote areas, and accelerating the construction of new railway lines.
Discussions also revolved around enhancing train services by improving stoppages at key locations, expediting the construction of Road Under Bridges (RUBs) and Road Over Bridges (ROBs), and prioritizing passenger amenities through improved cleanliness in trains and station areas. Furthermore, the MPs highlighted the importance of timely completion of ongoing projects critical for regional connectivity.
The MPs commended the East Coast Railway’s efforts to address regional freight transportation needs and acknowledged the positive strides made in passenger service improvements.
In his address, General Manager Funkwal expressed gratitude for the MPs’ valuable insights and provided an update on the performance of ECoR, focusing on ongoing infrastructure projects and enhancements in passenger services. The meeting also saw participation from DRM HS Bajwa and various departmental heads from East Coast Railway, reinforcing the collaborative spirit aimed at achieving better rail services in the Khurda Road Division.
