ROURKELA, SEP 5
“Teachers are the true heroes who shape our future and deserve our deepest appreciation,” said Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), during a vibrant Teachers’ Day celebration organized by RSP’s Town Services-Education unit at the Civic Centre on Thursday. The event honoured Bharat Ratna Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India and a revered educator, on his birth anniversary.
In his address, Bhowmick emphasized the pivotal role teachers play in shaping future generations. “As technology, social media, and communication evolve, so too must the roles of teachers and students,” he remarked, stressing the need for both to be empowered in the digital age.
The event featured Prof. Raja Kishore Paramguru, former Chief Scientist at CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar, as the keynote speaker. Attendees included SR Suryawanshi, ED (Works); Tarun Misra, ED (HR); Anil Kumar, CGM I/C (MM); Dr. Jayant Acharya, CMO I/C (M&HS); PK Swain, CGM (TA&CSR); S Tripathy, Principal of IVM Sector-19; Sushreeta Das, Principal of IEMS Sector-20; and many other senior RSP officers, along with a large number of teachers and students from Rourkela.
The Chief Guest and other dignitaries paid floral tributes to the portrait of Bharat Ratna Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
Prof. Paramguru recounted his experience of celebrating the first Teachers’ Day in 1962, advising students to embrace curiosity. “Never fear to ask questions; they can unlock many unsolved mysteries, just as they did for Newton,” he said, advocating for an inquiry-based learning approach.
Bhowmick honoured Prof. Paramguru and 96 former teachers and principals from various Rourkela schools for their contributions to education. Additionally, he presented the 32 Best Academic Performance Awards to top-ranking students from Rourkela.
