New Delhi, Mar 10
The e-Shram portal, launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment on August 26, 2021, aims to create a National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) linked with Aadhaar. The portal provides a Universal Account Number (UAN) to registered workers on a self-declaration basis. As of March 3, 2025, over 30.68 crore unorganised workers have registered on e-Shram, with women comprising 53.68% of total registrations.
To make e-Shram a “One-Stop-Solution” for unorganised workers, the Ministry launched the e-Shram integration initiative on October 21, 2024. This integration enables workers to access various social security schemes and track the benefits received. So far, 13 schemes from various ministries have been integrated, including PM-SVANidhi, PMSBY, PMJJBY, NFBS, MGNREGA, PMAY-G, AB-PMJAY, PMAY-U, and PMMSY, among others.
To improve accessibility, the e-Shram portal introduced multilingual support on January 7, 2025, using the Bhashini platform, allowing interaction in 22 Indian languages. Additionally, on February 24, 2025, the e-Shram mobile application was launched to provide real-time access to welfare schemes and enhance convenience for unorganised workers.
Several awareness initiatives have been undertaken, including review meetings with States/UTs, collaborations with Common Service Centres (CSCs), SMS campaigns, and social media outreach. e-Shram is also integrated with platforms like National Career Service (NCS), Skill India Digital Portal, PMSYM, myScheme, and UMANG app, ensuring seamless access to employment, skilling, and welfare opportunities.
As of March 3, 2025, the state with the highest registrations is Uttar Pradesh (8.38 crore), followed by Bihar (2.97 crore) and West Bengal (2.64 crore). The largest occupational sector registered is Agriculture (15.99 crore workers), followed by Construction (2.77 crore) and Domestic & Household Workers (2.89 crore).
This information was shared by Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
